Classification of Tungsten Carbide

Tungsten carbide, also known as metal carbide alloy material, is an alloy material made from hard compounds of refractory metals and bonded metals through a powder metallurgical process. Cemented carbide is available in a wide variety of types and is adapted to a variety of cutting, wear and impact resistant working conditions, making it widely used in daily production.

Tungsten carbide has a series of excellent properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, better strength and toughness, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. Especially its high hardness and wear resistance remain basically unchanged even at a temperature of 500℃, and still have high hardness at 1000℃. There are three main types of carbide for cutting tools, geological and mining tools and wear-resistant parts.

Tungsten carbide can be classified according to different aspects such as its composition, usage and production methods:

1. According to the composition, cemented carbide can be classified into: tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide, molybdenum-tungsten cemented carbide, tungsten-titanium cemented carbide and tungsten-tantalum cemented carbide, etc.

2. According to the classification of applications, tungsten  carbide can be divided into: carbide for cutting tools, carbide for mining tools, carbide for metallurgical tools, carbide for paper and printing tools, diamond composite carbide, etc. 3.

3. According to the production method, cemented carbide can be divided into: hot pressing cemented carbide, hot isostatic cemented carbide, cold isostatic cemented carbide, casting cemented carbide and explosive cemented carbide, etc.
